Be a part of the revitalization of urban Phoenix nightlife when Blend mixes it up at Palazzo (720 N Central, Phoenix, 602-635-7797, 1/14, 9pm to 2am, pricing TBD). Founded upon the premise “what goes around, comes around,” Blend’s three twenty-something founders are looking to push the urban Phoenix scene into previously uncharted territory. Their mission is to provide something unique that will attract and eclectic mix of people to their events. “BLEND is about creating an upscale yet unpretentious environment where people can ultimately find their own vibe by way of a diverse mix of music and DJs, a unique mix of interesting people, exotic drinks, and a great space to create a distinctive ambiance. BLEND will change form in terms of venue and theme, however this idea will remain consistent at all of our events,” Essen Otu, co-founder, said. The big three plan on holding BLEND quarterly. From the themed BLEND drinks like the Caipirinha to the DJ’s and music selection, BLEND is sure to be a highly sought after event every time it comes around. “We really did our homework to bring something that would blow people away and that would make you feel like you just walked into a club in NY, Miami, or Chicago. Our goal is that when you walk in, your first reaction is that you’ll feel like you are in one of those cities, but ultimately you will be in Phoenix,” Michael Stuard, another co-founder, said. SCOTTSDALE BLOCK PARTY Scottsdale is the place to be again this New Year’s with the 4th Annual “Champagne and Chefs” block party (Craftsman Court between 3rd & 5th Ave, Scottsdale, 800.370.2364, 12/31, 5pm, $35-100). Get your drink on at Acme Bar & Grill, Dos Gringos, Upper Deck Sports Grill and Venue of Scottsdale with either the General Admission tickets or spring for the VIP package and get 15 drink tickets, free food and an exclusive champagne toast. Take 2.5 million lights, hundreds of animal themed light displays, new three-dimensional attractions and mix in 250,000 annual visitors and you’ve got ZooLights (455 N Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, 602.273.1341, 11/23-1/7, 6-10pm, $5-8). The event, in its 15th year, is one of the most popular events in the area regardless of season. This year’s them, “Patterns of Light in the Night,” is all about what happens when the animal head to bed. Spectacular light arrangements on animals, in trees, on ice and in water highlight each evening. See talking giraffe Jengo plus 25 new, lighted penguin displays, a new Ice in Lights Den featuring unique lightings, patterned images and falling snow. If that’s not enough, try our carousel rides, hitch a trip on a wagon or sit down for a bite and a drink available from vendors throughout the zoo. Extra charges may apply for rides, Stingray Bay and Camel photos. All proceeds go directly toward the non-profit Phoenix Zoo. SANTA’S THEME PARK Get into the season with a trip to Santa’s Theme Park (I-10 and Wild Horse Pass, Chandler, 800.749.7268, 11/23-1/7, evening, $19+). With concerts nearly every night, 30+ attractions and enough lights to illuminate a small city, this year’s park is a truly grand event. Facility rentals are still available and make a great way to let your employees—or just a ton of friends—know that you appreciate them this holiday season. While many may claim the event is just a dressed up version of the Arizona State Fair, they’re wrong. Many attractions and events are unique to the park, so tell those grinches-in-training to lighten up and spread some cheer. For tickets and more information, check out visitsantas.com. |
